Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers have become one of the most common restorative procedures used to enhance smiles without the need of orthodontics. A veneer is a laboratory made porcelain facing bonded on top of your natural tooth. Porcelain veneers look and feel like natural teeth. Porcelain veneers can change the color and shape of a tooth, while providing excellent esthetic results in patients with broken or chipped teeth, severe tooth staining, open spaces or misaligned teeth.
Patients will require two sessions for the porcelain veneer procedure. During the first visit, a thin layer of enamel is removed and an impression is made of the tooth. This impression is sent to a laboratory to create the veneer. A temporary restoration similar to the end product is made for the patient at this time.
During the second session, the porcelain veneer is permanently cemented onto the existing tooth surface through the use of a bonding light. The bonding light hardens the resin adhesive cement. Any excess cement is removed and the porcelain veneer is polished.
FAQs About Porcelain Veneers:
What Is The Difference Between Resin (Bonding Veneers) And Porcelain Veneers?
Resin (bonding) veneers are made of a resin, and over time tend to stain or darken. Restoration with resin veneers can be performed in one visit. Porcelain veneers are lab processed and custom-made to fit perfectly over existing teeth. Restoration with porcelain veneers requires two visits since lab work is involved. In both procedures, some enamel will need to be removed so that the veneer or bonding will fit properly.
Do Porcelain Veneers Last Longer Than The Resin Veneers?
Yes. Porcelain veneers are much stronger than resin veneers and have a lifespan similar to crowns, which is usually 5 to 10 years or longer.
Can I Change The Color Or Shape Of My Teeth With Porcelain Veneers?
Yes, porcelain veneers are crafted to the perfect shape and color of teeth.
