Invisalign
Invisalign is a clear, comfortable and convenient way to straighten teeth, offering many advantages over traditional metal braces. The Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable teeth aligners that are virtually invisible. With Invisalign, no one will know you’re wearing braces unless you tell them. Not only is Invisalign more aesthetically pleasing than metal wires and brackets, the Invisalign system moves teeth more precisely than metal braces, and often requires fewer appointments and less overall treatment time. Additionally, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing, allowing you to maintain cleaner, healthier teeth during your orthodontic treatment. With Invisalign, food won’t get caught in wires and brackets, and there are no restrictions on what foods you can eat. Invisalign aligners are made from a smooth, comfortable plastic, so they won’t irritate and scratch your mouth and gums the way metal braces can. Treatment with Invisalign usually lasts about a year for most patients.
Invisalign works by gently and gradually moving teeth, using a series of clear plastic aligners that snap onto your teeth and are virtually invisible. Invisalign offers targeted, precise movement of teeth. With traditional metal braces, teeth are wired together, so there can be some unintentional movement of adjoining teeth that may need to be corrected later in your treatment. Because Invisalign moves only the teeth you want to move, overall treatment time may be less than with traditional braces.
Patients wear each set of Invisalign aligners for about two weeks each for 20 to 22 hours a day. Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing, as well as for photographs and even occasional special events.
During your initial appointment, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and discuss your goals and expectations with you. We will take x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth so that we can map out a precise treatment plan. Your Invisalign aligners will be custom-made to fit your exact treatment plan. With Invisalign, there’s no need to tighten wires every four weeks. You simply swap out your aligners for the next in the series. Follow-up appointments are usually scheduled for every six to eight weeks so that we can monitor your progress.
FAQs About Invisalign:
Does Invisalign Work as well as Traditional Braces?
Absolutely. Invisalign moves teeth gradually and precisely into their new position, without moving adjoining teeth. In fact, overall treatment time with Invisalign is about a year, which is usually less than with traditional metal braces.
Is Invisalign Comfortable?
Yes. Invisalign aligners are made from a clear, smooth plastic that is custom-fit to your mouth. There are no metal wires and brackets to irritate or scratch your mouth.
Can I Remove the Aligners?
While Invisalign aligners should be worn every day for at least 20 to 22 hours a day, they can be removed for eating, flossing and brushing. This allows you to keep your teeth cleaner and healthier during your treatment. Additionally, Invisalign aligners can be removed when taking photographs, and even if you have a special occasion you'd like to attend, like a wedding or a prom.
